I want to learn how to free-float barrels, install pillar bedding, and glass-bed rifle actions. Does anyone know of a good book and/or DVD that teaches how to accomplish these tasks in a step-by-step, easy to understand manner? My wood-working skills consist of nailing 2X4's together.

Regards, Bill.

Come on guys! I'm looking for a little help here.

I don't know anything about these topics, and I'm trying to learn. Perhaps my comment about nailing 2X4's together was flippant, but I really am looking for a good book and/or DVD that covers these subjects so I can do the work myself to improve the accuracy of my rifles.

Regards,
Bill.

Heres a good online tutorial of Pillars and bedding them in with the action.

There are others but this is pretty well written and easy to understand. Maybe some of the pro's here will chime in with better instruction.

Here's another:

Just by dumb luck I just finished my first pillar bedding job tonight. It came out pretty well--I've got a couple voids along the sides of the action. It looks pretty good around the recoil lug and under the receiver.

Good luck!

I have thought about producing a set of videos on this very thing. It is one of the gunsmithing things that most owners want to do themselves because gun guys are usually tinkerers anyway. Not a 2:30 Midway USA clip, I mean a full length, action specific DVD. The ones posted are very good, but I think guys just like DVD's with nice close-ups and live-action work.

A high quality DVD with close-ups would be very useful. Should show galss bedding alone, pillar bedding alone and the combination of glass and pillar bedding.

If you do it please post a note here and let us know.
