I want a precarved stock for a 1952 FN commercial 98 mauser with the non stepped skinny barrel, not the FN supreme.

Fajen is gone

Boyds makes them to order, wait times? They advertise a cavernous barrel free float gap. They seem proud of the poor quality feature. Talking to them on the phone made me suspicious.

Richards MIcrofit sold me junk in the past and apparently has not learned the business in the last 20-years.

Western in Aptos CA is gone.

I would think that commercial mauser stocks would be common stuff and on hand for immediate delevery, I guess I am wrong.

Is there anyone still out there that can supply a workable stock without making me wait months and months? Classic Sporter, or simmilar in real wood, please.

: ) yes I am getting frustrated.

Anything you can buy off the shelf will fit a few guns OK, will fit none well.

Go to someone like John Vest with your barreled action and you will get back a stock to one of his patterns that be attractive and will fit well if you do your part. Yes, turn around time will vary.

"Mauser stocks" can have maybe a few hundred variables.. Which variable do you want?

Boyds, Nice finished stock. Could have more drop at the toe. Barrel channel is .815 at the tip. The forend is almost beavertail. Weighs 10oz more than the plastic.

I do not want a finished stock. I only want to be able to finsh the precarve myself. The issue I have been having lately is that the precarve stocks blanks have wood missing that should not have been removed. That makes it impossible to inlet it and have a finished stock worthy of my time.

Ramrod340, I am wanting a classic style stock, I like Dakota and Kimber for instance. The Action is as described above, no safety cutouts.

I'll measure the barrel tonight. Pretty sure is is less than 0.815"

Yeah, like that. No safety molding or triangle shape above the trigger though. I'd guess that was the stock maker's style and not the precarve.

We'll be in touch.

Since the pattern is cut from my stock as the pattern. The pattern had the triangle. This the pattern on the bottom. Some people like it some don't takes just a couple minutes to sand off. I don't cut for a side safety. Unless I'm making a copy of someone's stock I normally cut a 1/2" starter grove for the barrel. Simply to many barrel options.

I've bought a couple on eBay, you can find a really nice stock for pretty good price. I snagged this last week

Interesting, I don't see a lot on the various stockmakers sites about bedding, pillars, barrel mounted lugs, or similar.

What do most stock makers do, in terms of bedding for big bore rifles?

None of that on a hunting rifle; useless. Just glass bed them.

I have bought semi inletted stocks from Wenig about 15 to 20 years ago. Not sure if they do Mausers. I think they took over Fajen or Bishop or both. Fred Wenig used to work for Fajen I think.

They may have changed hands again.
