Matt, Vapodog, Thanks for your input. Since I posted the above questions I found out that it's a copy of an FN. According to Frank De Haas the early ones were made in Germany and later in Yugoslavia. Mine is German. It's pretty sweet, it has hinged bottom metal with lever release, a nice touch. Stepchild

I really thought all of the J9's were Yugos. You learn something new every day. I had a Herter's short action .257 Roberts many years ago that was German, but it was marked "XK-3" rather than J9. Parts from the old Interarms/new Charles Daly Zastava Mauser might fit. Whadaya think? Whoa! Just reread that yours IS an XK-3. On my gun, I used a standard Mauser trigger replacement from Timney. The only thing that needed modification was a little lengthening of the trigger housing opening. The floorplate latch on mine was trash. I had to replace it with a screw and make the magazine essentially a "blind magazine". The gun had a 23 1/2" barrel and was amazingly accurate.

Stonecreek, The only thing i'm going to change out is the trigger(junk), the bore looks mint, at least through these old eyes. Judging from the looks of the bolt face it looks unfired. I got the Herter's stock with it, but what a club. If a Ruger stock is a canoe paddle, this is a barge paddle. I'm glad to hear yours was accurate, hope this one is. Thanks for your comments.
