Just acquired a nice old [tang safety] Ruger in 6.5 Rem Mag. I didn`t even know the things existed. Never seen one before. Anyone know anything about these? Appreciate the help.

I'd check catalogs from about the time the 77 first came out. Maybe 1970 or so. The .350 and 6.5 Rem Mags were still sold by Remington then and the 77 was first introduced only as a short action IIRC.

The Blue Book shows the 6.5 and 350 Rem mags with the 6.5 as scarce and 350 having a premium to be added on the older tang models. I recently picked up a 264 Win Mag in the tang model and it is not even listed.

I had a 6.5 tang (dogleg bolt) model for a few years back in the late '70s. It was an excellent gun that I used on at least one whitetail and one coyote. I resized cut off .264 Winchester brass (using a spare set of .264 Win dies to load with), which worked just fine. With 120 grain Sierras it seems like I was getting near 3200 fps out of the 22" barrel.

Like the typical idiot we all can be at times, I sold the gun for an insignificant profit when someone made an offer. Woe is me. Wait a minute! Maybe you have my gun! You can sell it back to me and I'll give you the $195 I got for it, plus interest calculated at 7% annually, okay? Big Grin
