I have a project I will be starting on when I get home in a few weeks. I am starting with the bolt handle and need some reference photos so I can show the smith exactly what I am wanting.

The look I am wanting is demonstrated very well in the photo below. (I fully admit to blatently stealing this photo from a post in the big bore forum) I would like to get some photos of the same bolt style from different angles and views. If anyone has some photos they would not mind sharing I would really appeciate it.

Here's an Oberndorf sporter bolt handle like the one pictured above that was copied from an original, also pictured. Tom Burgess did the work, ForrestB has it now. These are the ultimate for an open sight Mauser sporter but aren't the best for a scope sighted rifle.

Tom also made this recessed bolt handle which works much better when the bolt has to clear a scope eyepiece.

And a Mexican Mauser bolt handle done Oberndorf-style by Huntingcat, also now the property of ForrestB:

William, try this link, it is to Prechtl's web sight and they have quite a few pictures of similar bolt handles from several different angles. http://www.golmatic.de/Waffen_...n/fotogalerie_en.htm

If you look around their web site they have some other good pictures of bolt handles.

This one has some nice close up angles also.

This is the shape/style of bolt handle we going to use on our two open site rifles.

Who's bolt handle are you going to use?

Mark at NECG, said Prechtl's mm6202 Mauser Original Long Type is the one used in the pictures.

The down side is it takes a while to get stuff from Prechtl they said.

I am wondering if Jim Baiar of Half Moon Rifle Shop's large
Oberndorf bolt handle would be long enough to duplicate the Prechtl shape and size?

It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Dear Mr. Berger:

Thank you for asking this question on Mauser bolt handles. I had the same quandry, and am trying to get a bunch of ideas. This certainly helped.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Thanks everyone for the outstanding photos. They will be a huge help to me. I will be sure and post some photos of the project rifle once it gets started. I think you will like what i am doing with it.
Thanks again.
Bill
