I've acquired an original Newton #14X in .256 Newton that is missing the magazine spring and follower, otherwise it's in mint shape and a good shooter so far, ...still cautiously working up loads! But how can I find these two parts? Do anyone know of another with an owner that would be either willing to lend the parts for duplication or take them to someone that could duplicate them? Of course, I would cover any costs involved. ~Arctic~

If it is only a spring a follower, any local gunsmith should have a spring lying around that will work and should be able to fabricate a working follower from some sheet metal. It won't be original or anything but it will work if it is done correctly. -Spencer

Have you tried both a Springfield and a Mauser follower? One or the other is likely to be workable...ditto their follower springs. On my Newton (an "original" Newton, not a "Buffalo" Newton) the bottom end of the spring is NOT captive in the floorplate, so you don't even have to worry about grinding one end of the spring to fit the floorplate. You know, I've thought of trying a Mauser follower, but assumed it wouldn't fit. So today I dug a bunch out, found one that appears to work with a dummy round although it is a bit loose, but that can be cured. So I guess I'm set! Thanks! Goes to show, "Ya don't know until ya try!" ~Arctic~

Does anyone have the original hand press made by Newton from around 1910? I would like to see details of the tool. I made my own tool from pictures in an old book of the press. The other parts were designed and made to complete the kit. If you don't get the parts info for the follower and spring, I will check with a friend who has this model. I have had it apart years ago and I think that they were like the springfield. Here is a picture of my kit with a 6 inch scale.
