Not that i'm a wood worker nor could ever hope to stand in Duane's shadow.

I would suggest the same thing. cut undersize then break out the chisels and whittle away sneaking up on your line

I use a palm router but don't try and get it all. Hand tools remove wood a LOT slower which is a good thing for many of us.
