Blue, Do you have any experience with the MPI? Most posters on any site think poorly of them? Damn, and they make more styles for more actions than anybody else!

Mcmillan arguably makes the best synthetic stocks. They only have only main style for the mauser, however: http://www.mcmfamily.com/mcmillan/hunting/mauser.asp Pricey, but with a forever guarantee, they are worth it. I've had 10 or so, and have nothing but praise for them. In fact, just order another one a few weeks back...

Bansner Stocks These are light and well made, available in blind or standard bottom metal configurations and designed for the MkX. Go to Brownells as they havn't jacked up the prices yet, still $210. Jay Kolbe

I have never finished an MPI. A smith in town uses them a bunch and they turn out real nice. He swears by them. They come in a bunch of styles and inletting. I have finished the High-Tech, they are awesome.

Rimrock for a med weight or the Banser for a LW Absolutley forget the MPI. Alos a Brown precison is a good option if you have the time to finish them

lawndart, I don't know if it was an "accident" or not, but, yes, my mauser stock does have a slight cast off? The one I am presently installing on my Ruger short actioned, tang safety model, has NONE! Call Joan Borden, and she will transfer the call to the guy in the shop who does the work. He can/will answer ANY question in depth before you order. Though I bedded both myself, I understand Rimrock stocks does very good work when they do the whole job! What I like best is the fit and feel. Rimrock stocks are made from a custom gun pattern by a custom gunsmith....and the final product shows this! By the way, I would have tried a Bansner for the Ruger but, alas, they don't make one for the short actioned Ruger?
