I have the above rifle whcih from the serial number is a 1976 model. I have read that some models are very difficult to blue due to the metal used. A magent will stick to the receiver so obviously there is some iron in it.
I was going to redo the metal work and rust blue.

Has anyone tried the rust blue for the reciever only and if not then what process is best?

Cheers from NZ

I think it is the "Du-lite" that you need to do those receivers. I had one a bit ago that I sent to Robar in Phoenix.

Brownells #84 salts will turn that black for you. I've done it many times.

Here is the Du-lite link. Looks like 3-0 Salts are indicated. They ship internationally:

If you are rust bluing, make sure your solution has nitric acid in it.

Thanks for that, just checking the web site it may be more trouble than it is worth just to do the one receiver. I will have a search in NZ and see what I can find as I note that it is also used for colouring stainless steel.

I have the brew to mix up that uses nitric and hydrochloric acid etc which is easy to purchase here.
