Bolt knob proximity

Hi all,

Well, that's a goofy subject line. Any way, I had a straight down bolt handle welded on to a Mark X action bolt and when I finished contouring the stock the bolt knob is rather close to the stock. All looks good and I am reluctant to reduce the stock for more clearance due to the Lott chambering and resultant recoil. I thought it too close, but on cycling found it an easy performance. I know I answered my query, but what say you? The knob is less than 1/16" inch off the wood. I have cycled on-shoulder and dropped, as some do, and either is no problem. It makes for a trim and tucked-apendage appearance. Most bolts have a knob sticking way out from the stock. Let the flaming begin.

Thanks in advance,

Stephen

If you need more room, you can always heat the bolt handle near the root and bend it out slightly to gain more room. Give it a little more sweep.

Westpac,

Thanks for the input. I considered that, but am too leery of changing the straight down bolt shank attitude. The bottom metal is one of Duane Wiebe's, but is not a drop box. It does extend down about 1/4" below the stock, but not as a true drop box would ie. the magazine box bottom is not below the top inner surface of the trigger bow. Make sense? Just a Magnum Mauser box with a coffin floor plate. I really appreciate the drop-box appearance the big African rifles have, but that is in my next build. Stumbled on a FN Supreme Magnum receiver and goodies at a gun show last spring for $85 and that might force my direction.

Thanks,

Stephen
