Barrel timing

I have a very nice doumolin with a FN action that the barrel is overtimed. It drives me nuts even though i use a scope and its not that noticeable when scoped. I know where there is a barreled action with the same action on the cheap. What is the possibility that the treads are timed a bit different and i could swap actions and maybe get close. Worth the try? Then sell the action for profit? Im no gunsmith so I'm asking you all.

His barrel is screwed in either too much or too little and drives him nuts he says. I’m assuming he has open sights anet his reference to a scope.

Since it is an FN action, I doubt if the threads will line up the barrel from another FN action.

If it is over timed then just have the should swagged
a bit. Pretty easy job for anyone who barrels rifles and a common fix on things like SAA Colt handguns.

Swaging the barrel shoulder is/was an approved method for fitting M1 Garand barrels during depot rebuild. There was a specific torque break away requirement for them.
Mauser barrels are never timed during manufacture; they put the sights on them after fitting.
Ones like Springfields and Enfields, that have extractor grooves; the threads are timed, or clocked, during manufacture.
Fixing your issue is relatively simple and can be done with a BFH. Medium one, actually. I have done them.
Before someone cries "headspace" as, when you do the math, moving a barrel shoulder back one twentieth of a turn, moves the barrel forward, .004. unlikely to cause any problems.
You can also peen each thread forward. Or lathe roll with a dull tool. More than one way to skin a cat.
And to answer your real question, the odds of you getting a perfectly timed barrel from another receiver are one in 144. That is not a made up number.
Do you feel lucky?

Yeah, Sorry I wasn't clear enough. The sights lean to the right. The previous owner used a william's peep.... and the rear sight was missing. I bought and fit a rear sight with an extra safari style blade. That is when I realized everything leans to he right. It isn't noticeable until you have sights and bases on. Then it sucks. And dpcd, Thanks as head space issue was affecting my head space about the repair. one more thing. The witness mark is lined up and I haven't checked the headspace of the rifle.

If the witness marks line up, then the head space "should" be ok, but check it anyway.

Are you still in Kansas? or back in Namibia?

Terry, We are living in Kansas. We lived in Namibia and it is our home forever too. My daughter was born there. We went back for 3 weeks last year. It was good to be home. I live in Cheney, KS just outside of Wichita. I love it here.

As I see it, your barrel needs to be set back just a LITTLE. Well within the capabilities of a decent gunsmith.

Are you sure the barrel is in tight?

Just put a wrench on it and re-seat the barrel with a BFH so the sights are on top. If it won't get there, lube the threads with synthetic extreme pressure grease and try again. Might take a half dozen tries but it will get there. Regards, Bill
PS. If you don't have a barrel vise and wrench, take it to a gunsmith who can do this for you.

Yes, I thought your barrel was overtightened and sights leaned to the left. In your case, do what bill said and tighten it more to line up the sights. I guarantee headspace will not adversely be affected.
You can always milk a barrel on a couple of degrees more.
