Need help with Winchester Model 70 post-64

I jumped on a gun on an auction site and right now I'm high bidder. Only 1 problem, the gun comes without a bolt. The gun in question is a Winchester Model 70 pre-64. I can get the bolt for it at Numrich, but here is where I need advice.

In '64, Winchester switched to the push feed action. The bolt had 2 opposed lugs.

In '68, Winchester changed the bolt design slightly. They added an anti-bind groove to the bolt head. This runs along a ridge under the receiver rail.

Of course, the gun I am bidding on was made in '65.

I've been trying to do some research. One book I read online says that the two bolts were not compatable.

Here's the question: it looks like I could mill off the anti-bind feature on the post-68 bolt and make it fit the action.

Is this possible? I would welcome some gunsmith's advice and input.

Below is a pic of the post-68 bolt head:

The configuration I need is on the left, the post-68 bolt is on the right:

Thanks for the help,

Al

Your post is kind of confusing.

First you say it is a pre-64
Then you say the gun was made in 65

It seems to me from the pictures that you are looking for a post 64 bolt made before the anti-bind feature was added in 1968. Or you are asking how to make the anti-bind bolt fit a push feed action not made with the anti-bind feature.

Is that correct?

How much are you biding for it? Besides buying a bolt assembly, you will have to have the headspace checked and possibly corrected. You may also need to do something with the safety. It may need some tweaking in order to work. Just little annoying incidentals you have to consider..

Yes, Is it possible to make the anti-bind bolt fit the action made w/o the anti-bind feature.

From 1965-1968, push-feed Model 70s were made w/o the anti-bind feature.
