I'm in the process of redoing a stock on a M77 Ruger and I bought a used original red pad for it and the pad is longer then the stock. What would be the best way to shape the pad to fit the stock? Also, the stock is larger in some areas also, not by much maybe a 1/16 of an inch or so. Should I just work that down with some 180 grit to size and then work up to the 400 that I used on the rest of the stock?
