I don't know why you couldn't. I had a Savage M340 that had been rechambered to 223 from 222.

I cant really see the the point in rechambering a 222 to a 223 as its probably a 1-14 twist barrel.
You would not gain that much performance and probably lose more accuracy!
Rebarrel to a faster twist barrel would be a better option or just buy a 223!!!

yep....
222 chamber... 223 reamer...

easy.. seen several of them done...

woudl work fine with the 55 gr milsurp, which sounds damn cool to me...

though I might would have to take that 222 and rebarrel to 50 beowolf or some other AR-15 nasty round

I own a CZ 527 in .222 and it is one of the sweetest shoting rifles I have.If you reload you are not going to gain much by going to the .223. If you want to shoot out the barrel with thousands of rounds of cheap mil surp I guess I understand. If that's the case though why not just get a mini 14 and cherish the CZ? roger

If you really want a 223, you could also consider picking up a 527 223 take-off barrel for $35 from James Calhoon.

Oh, please don't! Rifles chambered for .222 are getting scarce as hen's teeth, and .223's are a dime-a-dozen. Before spending $50-$100 to devalue a great little gun, either sell or trade it and get the same or similar already chambered for .223. It will probably be cheaper, anyway.

I did this to a fine old Remington 722. It had a 1/14" twist, and would not shoot G.I. 55-grain FMJBT ammo or bullets. It was OK with 55-grain flatbase bullets. I made a big mistake! Should have left it a .222!

the reason I thought about rechambering is I have thousands of new unfired ,primed 223 brass ready to load and I have dies and such.I never thought about the twist being different.OK,so how hard is it to change 223 brass to 222?I would be concerned about having to lube and form primered brass.

Stonecreek,

I took a mint Rem 700 BDL SA with factory anodized finish (like black chrome similar to a browning) in 222 to the last gunshow here in Dallas to sell and nobody seemed that interested in it. Are rifles in 222 actually getting hard to find, my experience is they are a slow mover if your selling. I bought a LNIB mid 80s Win SA 70 Lightweight in 223 to replace it, maybe I should rethink selling it or keep both?
