I have a recently cracked stock.(previous post) I intend on having the problem corrected next month. However, I was invited on a Hog hunt last night. The area I am hunting has many 300+ lb hogs and the one's the landowner wants gone are said to be 450-500lbs. I REALLY want to use my LOTT on these animals. Will it be foolhardy to use the gun with 400gr bullets at about 2300fps if I limit my shooting to just the hunt? The crack is as follows; Flip the gun upside down, the crack runs from the screw in front of the magazine plate all the way to the bottom foreend lug. Thanks.....

I'm not a gunsmith, but my advice is: Don't do it. It is very possible that the stock will 'let go' on the very next shot, leaving you with, at best, a broken stock and a few splinters, or at worst, injured and unarmed against a potentially dangerous hog. George

it only takes 24 hours for a total curing of acraglass... there is not enough whiskey in texas to get me to pull the trigger on a cracked (known) and unrepaired big bore... it could just "snap" it could splinter, or it could give way, and using my face for recoillug.. jeffe

I agree with Jeffe. That caliber should have had a cross bolt put in it before it cracked. Hindsight is always 20/20 ! Does it have a barrel lug on it? Good luck on your hog hunt though. Paul.

I guess I'll borrow my friends 300wm.....really pisses me off. I would love to have seen what it could do. Africa is still years away.

Why not just pickup some acraglass and fix the crack? you could take the action and mag box out, then imbed some machine screws for an internal cross bolt. If you can't find acraglass locally, would some 2part 10min epoxy work just as well? In the Big Bore section there was a thread awhile back on reinforceing stocks with machine screws bedded internally. Maybe do a search on it. I'd say fix it and take it hunting.

I went to the Big bore site and copied the information there. Seems like a lot to learn in a week and I do not have a drill press or some of the other tools mentioned. 1.To fix the stock do I need to spread the crack and fill it with the bedding compound? If so how do I spread the stock? (with wedges??) 2. I need to remove the previous bedding compound (I assume) in order to get the length wise and cross bolts in. 3. What brand/type of bedding should I use? I hate to try this without more time but I want to take this gun............I need prayer

How far are you from Perry Georgia? If I can help you out I will. I have bedded a couple of rifles. I would suggest Accraglass to fill the crack. Without seeing it I can't say weather I would use the gell or not. Just send me a PM if I can help. Quote:That was a good one Jeffe. Shawn
