I got a deal on a 1st year m700ks with a shot out barrel, the 1's with a brown precision pounder. I am going to have it rebarreled either by John Lewis with his choice of barrels or by the barrel maker..Except for PACNOR all these options are about the same cost. Hart has a $50.00 price increase in feb. so I need to ship the gun next week.. This is a hunting rifle but i will want .75" or better groups. The 20 week delivery time is not a problem. Thanks for your advice.

Go with a Krieger. Timan

The US is blessed with so many great barrel makers it is hard to go wrong. I would go with what your smith recommends. If that happens to be a Hart, then you are in good company, as that is one of the dominating barrel brands in BR today. I believe Hart only makes SS barrels, so if you want a CM, Krieger would be another top choice. But as I said above, there are so many good barrel makers... - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Great choice of cartridges, I have a little ruger 77MK2 RL so chamberd. I had to tweek it quite a lot to get it to shoot but with the 100 grain barnes tripple shock and a stiff dose of H-414 I get 3100+ and right around MOA from a factory pencil thin 20 inch barrel. I think I will find or buy another with a longer and thicker tube. i am curious why you specify "not pac-nor" For your barrel, I have a 270 barreld by pac-nor and I must say it has been a slight dissapointment. I have herd since then they make good barrels but some one else should put them on...tj3006 freedom1st

Tom, Before you buy a new barrel, give the existing barrel a thorough cleaning with an aggressive copper solvent (Sweet's 7.62, Barnes CR-10, et al.), then run some patches with JB or USP bore paste, followed by patches soaked in Shooter's Choice or Butch's Bore Cleaner. It's possible that the barrel is not shot out, but only badly fouled. If you've already gone through the above exercise, barrels from Shilen, Lilja, Hart, Krieger, Pac-Nor, Lothar Walther, and H-S Precision are all excellent. George

Pac-nor CM - $165 (contoured and unpolished). I've yet to own a LW, Hart, Krieger, or Lilja that would out do these pac-nors (on a hunting rifle).

I have a 257 in process right now. I'm using a Lilja 3 groove. Metal work is mostly done. It's on a Mdl 70 Classic . Bolt handle has been replaced with straight and has NECG masterpiece banded ramp with island rear . Leupold 3.5x10 Vari-XIII in Talley rings on Talley bases. Barrel is a #3 22". Stock will be a very nice English in Curt Crum/David Miller pattern. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Very similar to my idea for a rifle. Post some pictures when you get a chance. I will be going with a specific Lothar Walther barrel profile #5130

Will try to post when it's completed but so far I haven't been able to get a pic to post. I'm pretty poor at PC's and their idiosyncracies. I have a short attention span and even less patience with them. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS
