my dad gave me my 416 for my first ele hunt when I was 24. it was the only economical help he gave me for my first safari. " You must work for it, fight for it and really deserve it" That is what I did and when I finally made it he gave me his 416 Remington. with it since then I have shoot from grysbok up to 6 elephants
In 28 days i am going back to zim to try to find a big old tusker. it is the first time that I am going without my 416. this is because I have had problems with the chamber. The first time it happened in Cameroon when I shoot my first forest elephant. one shoot and when feeding my rifle a JAM. I thought it was my fault, nerves something badly done... whatever. it was me not my rifle. Checked it in camp and seemed to work niecly. tanzania with buff same problem. lucky again one shoot, dead buff. Checked problem comes and goes. back in spain took it to the gunsmith and tells me its the spring changes it and I try it in monteria. worked fine. back in zim shoot another ele works well. try it with softs with an impala jam once again. seems to have a problem with softs. back again to gunsmith "I fix it" not worked. What can i do? I am going to use a 416 ruger rigby on this safari. but in cameroon in jul I wouls like to use again my 416 rem once again. can anyone reccomend me what to do. Thanks

Hey Dwarf, I'm sure the gunsmiths here are going to want to know what model of rifle you have.

Great story with that rifle too, I'm sure your father was/is very proud of you and what you've accomplished.

Does the jam only happen on the 2nd round in the magazine? at what point in the feeding does it jam? (i.e. when the shoulder hits the barrel, half an inch before bolt close etc.)

it happens when I try to reload the rifle after the first shoot. bullets jump out of the ("cargador") place where you put them in, from where you feed the rifle...Chamber¿? sorry english is not my native languaje and it is not easy for my to name the different bits and pieces in english. Thanks for your time. will post all details of the rifle but it is a remington416

Do you get the feeling your dad doesn't like you? Big Grin

If it's a factory Remington rifle originally built for the .416 then I would look to make sure it is assembled correctly. If the rifle was disassembled and and then reassembled incorrectly, then rounds will fly out of the action like you describe. I would look there first.
