If I want a bigger bore than 9.3x62 what would be the best chamber on this action?
375-416-458
Or is the ZG47 action not to be tampered with?
It will be my moose gun.

I have been looking for a ZG 47 in 9,3X62 for a while. I bought two ZG 47 recently, one in 270 Win and another in 8X64S. I would like to know what condition your rifle is in and if it's well taken care off?? If you whant a bigger "lgddare" I would be happy to give upp my 8X64s for your 9,3X62. My rifles are in great condition.

I guess you would have a slight problem to get a 375 H&H or 416 Rem/rigby to fit in your reciver, the cases are too long and the reciver too short, depends on how you see things.....Hehhe

London gun makers made long cartridges in standard lenght recivers by milling away the seats for the lower locking lugs, not recommended at all. If you want a cartrigde for your rifle take a look at 416 Howell or Taylor. The choice depends on if you like/hate belted cases..

My rifle is in good condition but I will keep it. I am just playing with the idea of trying to find one more to rebuild. I would like to have a standard cal, but the 416 Taylor looks good to.

Can this aktion (ZG47) be made in to a 375 H&H and would it be an expensive job?

I don't see how you could improve the 9.3x62, I can come within a 100 FPS of a 375 or 9.3x64 with a good handload and a 26" barrel, and I better add with .0002 expansion of the case head, before I get scolded about hot loads...

I have shot a number of Cape Buffalo with the 9.3x62 with a 320 gr. Woodleigh at near 2350 FPS and a 286 Woodleigh solid at 2500 FPS and I can't tell any difference between it and the 375 H&H..I love them both, but there isn't enough difference to worry about...It will slay moose with aplomb.

thats a nice collectable piece and it would be a shame to monkey with it...The 9.3x62 is a tried and true round, the baby of all African farmers at one time.

The 9.3x62 will stay in my care.
But if can find an other ZG47 what would my options be, 375H&H, 416 Rem, 404 Jeffery?
You say that its a collectable, what would it be worth? Sometimes you can find them here in Sweden for 200-300$.

You can get a 404 or 375 in a Zg47 action, but is not to recommend since you have to mill out much of the metal that one of the locking lugs is fitted in, this means that only one locking lug will keep the bolt in the reciver. NOT GOOD AT ALL.

I recommend that you take a look at Dakotas short cartridges or some of the wildcats like 416 Taylor or 416 Howell. If you whant a long cartridge get a long action like a BRNO 550 which will house most biggies including 585 Nyati.

If you what more BOOOMM get a 9,3X64.

Janne,
A better source for value would be Alf as he collects that series and I collect the Brno 21M and 22F's, which bring around $1400. today depending on caliber, the rare calibers bring much more...

Johan,
I would have thought that you could open the 47 up enough in back to chamber a 404 Jefferys which is shorter than a 375 H&H..No Mauser should be opened more than ,0040 in the front and I can do that with a fingernail file I have not enspected the Brno 47 but isn't it a standard Mauser 98 basically??

Ray,
It's best described as a 98 derivative. I have chambered them in short magnums but never in a long mag. As you know I'm not a fan of the 98 for long mags.
By the way when you open a 98 to the rear by the over 1/4 inch required what do you do with the bolt stop? Regards, Bill.

According to Friend of mine you can't open the action in the rear since the trigger is in the way. The ZG 47 is perhaps the best mauser clone, excellent quality. The size is the same as standard 98.

Hi!

Johan, if you are seriously looking for a ZG 47 in 9,3x62 there is one for sale at Kjells Vapen for 4900:- (with a leupold 1-4). I havent seen it but I did buy another one so chambered from them earlier this year at a somewhat lower price and it was really nice!! You can count me in among the ZG 47 fans!!!!!

I called Kjells vapen this very morning, and according to them the rifle were not a ZG 47, but a Brno mod 600. The saftey was on the side od the reciver and not on the bolt. The search goes on.....
Thanks anyway

I could have sworn their website said ZG 47 but must have been wrong???!! I saw when looking on it now that they had a new design on the whole site so maybe theyd changed that too?? I wonder if the 9.3 that J.G saw was the one I bought cause it was indeed in good shape (except for a minor damage to the stock). Well Ill keep an eye out for another 9.3 (this time Ill make sure I know if it is one or not!!) Good luck!!
