Anyone have any experience or opinions they might want to share concerning Barska scopes?

I bought a couple to serve as something other than an iron sight. One is fitted to a Swede Mauser and was used because of its small size for the type of mount used. If I can set it at smallest magnification and it holds, fine. Ditto for thge 3-9x or whatever which will also be used as an open sight substitute.

At age 65 my nearsightedness is shifting down a bit but whatever the case I am generally not able to focus on open rifle sights and the target, with some exceptions.

Bought one to try it out. About the second outing the range adjustment went south. I took it to their LaVern CA. facility for repair. They charged me $20.00 and replaced the scope which is a POS and going south also. Their show room is just full of stuff that really looks good but I would never buy another one.

I have the 30mm straight tube 1.5-5, I think. It's like I'm looking through a drop of water at 100yds. forget it.

You can always take one apart and make a sorta-kinda mechanical tube sight out of it. This means making inserts to fit either end. Might work for the gadget minded and produce a sight having some of the virtues of peep and telescope.

I'd hate to ponder the amount of wasted time a poor feller would have in doing that to a ching wong chong barska........

I guess I'll be the one "for" opinion.

I picked up one of the SWAT Extream Tactical 6-24x44 two years ago and put it on my .22-250 for shooting ground hogs. I have been very pleased with it for a $200 scope. It has a glass etched retical, 30mm tube, 1/8 moa adjustment and a lighted retical (just a gimic they can keep as far as I'm conserned), and side paralax adjustment (which I love).

Its clear enough to see .22 cal bullet holes at in paper at 250 yards, I don't get any eye strain looking through it for extened periods and the parelax adjustment works great.

I made up a MIL dot calibration chart on clear plotter film and calibrated the power ring at 1x resolution (arond 10x) and 2x resolution (around 20x) The 2x resolution works great on small targets. Take the reading as per normal, check the MIL Dot Master chart and double the yardage. I fiddle with the knobs all the time dialing in corections and it goes where I tell to and comes back.

In short I like it and would recommed that model to anybody that only has a couple hundred bucks to spend.

I picked up a 4x fixed about 2 years ago just to have an extra scope if one broke. Well... last summer one did break - Put the Barska on and have never looked back.

The rifle is a sporterized 7.7 Jap. The scope has 1/4" clicks. I've put it thru the 5 left, 10 up, 10 right, 10 down and 5 left drill and it returned to POA. It held a zero riding around in case in back of my truck for 4 days. Used it to shoot a doe at 80 yards last fall - Worked fine!
