Is this a realistic conversion? Is the .002 difference in head diameter an issue? Feeding problems? Any experience with the conversion would be great. Thanks!

I'd count on having to get a RUM magazine box to make it feed. JMO, Dutch.

To my knowledge, Savage isn't yet chambering for the RUMs. Would you try to fit a Rem box, modify the existing mag or what? You're right though, I'm at the end of the existing box with 338WM Ballistic Tip loads. Thanks again.

Yes they are, since I've owned a .300 RUM 112 since last summer!! I don't think they're chambering for .338 RUM or any of the others yet. I just checked my wholesale catalog. They list the .300 RUM in the 116FSS Weather Warrior, 116FLS Laminated stock, 116 Safari Express, 116GSS Walnut stock,111F Classic Hunter,111FXP Package kit. Apparently they are not currently chambering the 112s with the muzzle brake like I have, any more in .300 RUM. If you get a new bolt head, mag box and barrel, it should be a piece of cake. It might be cheaper to just buy a new one, unless you already need a barrel.

That's why I love this site! When I bought my last new Savage (last spring) the shop said they had not yet chambered for them so I went with the 338 WM as a fall back. I will call Midway and get a mag box and follower coming and just have someone punch out the existing barrel. Thanks a ton for the info. BTW, how many can you stack in the mag with your 300? Does it shoot like the rest of the Savages? Again, thanks for setting me straight!
