A mini-update here.... Long LH is now 86 out of 100. Short LH & RH is 292 out of 300. It's a drag race to see if we can complete the mag-box files before you guys send this one to the mold-maker.

Trigger Question Rod, one of the things included with the new action is an adjustable trigger. What is the range of adjustment available? Will any of the aftermarket adjustable triggers made for the M-70 fit right on to a left handed short action? Since I'm building a varmint rig with mine I'm really curious to know if a Jewell trigger fit it?

The trigger sent with the M1999 replicates the M70 Geometry, and with that, all of the benefits and faults of the original design. The trigger is superbly easy to adjust and usually gives crisp let off with minimal overtravel. The single fault seems to be mass. The trigger is quite a chunk of metal compared to other designs, and with all that mass, inertia can be a problem. Ligthen the trigger spring too much and it will not control the trigger. Try this only with a verified empty chamber. Cock the rifle, take it off safe and set it down firmly upon its pad on a stout surface (garage floor is good). If the trigger is set 3.5lb and above - no problem. Get it down to about 2lb... Sometimes the inertia of the trigger will overcome the light spring and the trigger will come back on its own, firing the gun. USRAC sought to eliminate this problem by upping the poundage of the trigger spring. There isn't enough adjustment in the screw to get to less than 3.5lb...hence no issue. Our spring is lighter and yes, you can get there...Caution please. We set the trigger at 4.5-5# at the factory. On purpose. We also set the overtravel to damn near non-existant. Engagement is what it is and we don't mess with it. We'll leave that to more knowledgeable folks. As we mentioned in the tech-tips, the current sear pin shipping on the Long Action is .006 too small for aftermarket triggers. The fix is relatively easy and when a M70 pin is installed, any aftermarket trigger for the M70 will work just fine. By the time SA come to production, the new M1999 sear pins will be here and this issue will be long gone. Your Jewel will work as designed. [ 02-26-2003, 07:25: Message edited by: Rod@MRC ]

OK Rod, thanks for the info. I'm assuming from this that the right and left handed action triggers are identical rather than mirror images. I appreciate your quick and thorough responses to all of my questions. Now, if I can work the timing so that I hurry up and pay for this action (so Wifezilla can forget about it) and still get in on the promotional offer for a left handed long action.
