| I loved reading his stuff. Often I disagreed and sometimes I would even poke fun at the old curmudgeon, but I always respected him and his viewpoints. Seriously, there was no one like him on this forum. There will never be anyone like him on the forum again(a sobering thought). RIP, J.D.Steele RIP... Damn, I am going to miss reading his stuff.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

| I got to get to Joe once over a bolt handle weld job. First he didnt take it lightly but came to take it with a grain of salt later. You could tell he had done gunsmithing, like the rest of our breed... there is the right way, the wrong way, and his way. It'll take awhile before I wander why he hasnt jumped in with both feet on some subject...J.D. was one of us and I will miss reading his post. Joe....RIP

| A genuine character. I'd get an infrequent response from him just often enough to be convinced I wasn't on his ignore list. |

| Joe was a diabetic with evidence of peripheral vascular disease. As such it was likely he also had coronary artery disease so I suspect myocardial infarction.

| I always appreciated the fact that he was willing to share his knowledge and experience with those of us trying to learn. He will be sorely missed and his passing leaves a void that will be noticed. RIP Joe.
