I just traded for a custom benchrest rifle. It is a 220 Swift, with a Shaw barrel. I know nothing about a Shaw barrel, or even if I am spelling it right. I do know it shoots a lot better than I can shoot!I also got another barrel with the rifle in 22/250. It is a large, very heavy barrel, Appox. 1.25 in. across the front. Were can I send this barrel for an action and stock, and some est. of cost? The rifle I have has a Interarms Mark X action. I think this is a Mauser action. Any body have suggestions? Thank you, Bill Adams

Bill,

The E.R. Shaw barrels are considered "bargain basement" as far as custom barrels go. (I'm sure they are better than factory barrels.) They get some true-blue supporters for hunting barrels, but not many in benchrest. However, each barrel is a lwa unto itself, and the proof is in the shooting!

Surely there are some good local smiths around Arkansas, but I don't know them. You need to get somebody to look at what you've got, to see where to go with it. I'd suggest asking around at an NRA match or local gun range for a local 'smith.

Good luck with it!

Don

Check with Tony's Powderkeg in Batesville. He's got a nice shop, and I've heard good things about his smithwork. Talk to him and see if he can do what you want.
