Mounted my old reliable leupold 2x7 on a Whitworth 375. When I tighten the rear rings, the variable ring starts binding. It doesn't seem like I'm over tightening. When I back the screws off the variable ring works again. Any ideas on handling this glitch? Bob
I talked to Matt from Hill Country Rifles yesterday. Here's his advice about Talleys. He says since the rings now use torx screws, he's seen bunches of scopes ruined with overtightening. That's the proglem with my variable ring binding. He says Talleys mount properly with a gap in the top of the vertical split ring. He also said they don't need to be lapped b/c of their construction. I'll just back off of the top screws until the variable ring works. Bob
If the holes in your receiver are not lined up, tightening the rings will tweak the scope tube, perhaps enough to cause other problems like a stuck power ring.

I believe in the 2-7 Leupold the helical cam is located just ahead of the ocular bell on this model. If you tighten the ring screws to much it will hamper the movement in the cam.Lapping will no nothing to rectify the situation.
this is what happened to me with both Talley & warne mounts with both the 1-4 leupold and the 2-7 leupold on my .375 H&H cz. Funny thing is I have the rings in the same place (another set of warne fixed) with the same 2-7 leupold on my 9.3x62 cz and the power ring is a little firm but works.
The problem was I could not even tighten the rear ring in the slightest or it would bind the scope, I had them lapped and as you said it made no difference !! People might remember me posting about the same issue a while back.

Burris is the only ring I have ever seen that needed not so much lapping as routing. Appalling - I didn't even put the top half of the ring on it was so bad!

Are you at all familiar with the signature series rings from Burris? They are very similar to the Jewell or the Sako Optiloc system. Quite frankly, they are the best rings on the market bar none. I have had excellent results with them in every application I've used them for. If you would at least TRY THEM, I'm sure you'll agree.
