What parts, if your looking for just a shooter, why don't you do it yourself. 1911's are easy to put together.

Whats the deal with your parts?

Well, yes...and no. Putting all the parts together, and fitting all the parts together so they work properly, are not the same thing.

In my experience, 9 out of every 10 gun show parts brought in, which need fitting, are better off being thrown away that have time wasted trying to make them work.

Blaser93,

Is your frame and slide an original Colt? That is the basis of your 1911.

Careful on 1911 smiths, there are some very knowledgable smiths that specialise in them (small percentage), run of the mill smiths that do basic stuff, and complete idiots ( which unfortunately are in the majority ). I am very fussy on my 1911's, I have lost count on how many Colt 1911's I have but a dozen or better is a fair guess, a couple of which I have built myself.

In the first group are Ted Yost, Ned Christiansen, Bill Adair, and Dane Burns are all qualified 1911 smiths. They are top quality smiths, but time and/or cost will figure into selecting any of these. Adair does great work, he restored my 1914, and it is flawless, but he is picky and if it was made after WWII he won't touch it. Yost is does fanstatic work, he finished up my Delta earlier this year and he is a master 1911 smith, in my opinion and others he is one of the premier 1911 smiths in the country. Ned Christiansen does stuff with metal you need to see to believe he is a true artist. I don't own any Burns pistols, but have seen the pudding so to speak, he is defiantely a top drawer 1911 smith. Another couple of names you can trust in this game are Clark, and Kings.

If you look over at the Highroad, I used to run across one of the members there call "Tuner" out of the Carolinia's somewhere he isn't a smith per say, but he knows more about 1911's than 90% of the gunsmiths out there. He will (or did) take on projects ocassionally.

I assume you have an original Colt frame and slide. Many of your collected parts are in likelyhood just as ShopcartRacing said. Expect to replace the springs, your bushing as 99% of all originals are is just scrap metal, and once a barrel has been fit odds are its not cost effective to try and salvage it.

A good source for 1911 parts is Cylinder and Slide. Kart makes prefit barrels, so does Barsto.

For some information on the 1911 look at m1911.org there is a ton of information there including parts diagrams and sources.

I am not implying here that these are the only good 1911 parts by the way. There are other good parts, and some of the good ones are from suprising sources like Norico for instance. But I like Colt parts, this is a good start on building a good 1911.

You might consider Wilson Combat. I have a pistol they built for me off a Springfield Armory slide and frame and it is the most reliable 1911 I have ever owned. It will digest any round you can put in it, and you can even mix and match rounds in the same mag and not have any problems.

Don Williams at http://www.theactionworks.com did a fantastic job on some work I had done on my Hi-Power a couple of years ago. I emailed him back and forth about the job several times and he always prompt with replies and very informative. The job was done quick and the workmanship was fantastic. Best of all, the price was right. Oh and since I didn't mention it, he works on 1911's too. Smiler
