crafishcalibers for 1910 mexican
Recently picked up a small ring mexican action.
Was thinking about going 6.5-06 or 7-06 (280)
then I noticed bolt is shorter than standard 98
Will it feed 06 calibers or would it be better to
drop back to 6.5-284 .open for suggestions.
thanks

thismortalcoilBuilding a 338Fed on one now, and probabley a 6.5x284 next year. Keep them to x57,308 or 284 cases and you'll be safe; not alot of extra work needs to be done. Some of the other cases require more effort.

Marc_StokeldThe Mexican is an intermediate action designed around the Xx57 line of cartridges. You could open one up for an X'06 family cartridge, but it seems a little odd to me. It would require a goof bit of modification-along the lines of opening up a regular M98 to take a .375 H&H.
I owuld stick with soemthing the length of the 7x57, 6.5x55, or the .308 family. The action was designed with this size round in mind.
But I have seen a couple that were opened up to the '06 family cartridges before.

since I don't yet have one, I always vote for the six-and-a-half.

TC1I did the 7X57 on mine. How could you go wrong with an action that's purpose built for the cartridge?

tin canI used a 7mm last year hunting in Montana, and will use it again in October- I love the thing, and there is a nostalgia appeal to it I enjoy.
