I have a FN commercial higgins that i am replacing the trigger. I notice that the cocking piece is flat and not cut on the bottom like a inverted V as the military cocking piece is. Is this a lightening cut or does it have a purpose? Secondly, where the cocking piece meets the sear it is slightly slanted as was the higgins trigger. IF replacing the trigger does the cocking piece need replaced too? or is this different angle not a problem? by the way i am replacing with a commercial FN double stage military type. Thanks

Commercial cocking pieces are not notched because sometimes the notch interferes with the resetting of the trigger and will bind up the bolt. The notch is there so the military sear can move up into it but even for military triggers it is not needed. Many times but not all, commercial triggers won't work with a military cocking piece. So, leave that alone. As for the angle on the cocking piece sear nose, they all should be 90 degrees. If yours is angled, that is wrong.

The JC Higgins much like the FN's with Sako triggers have an angle on the CP Sear. The angles on the Higgins and Sako differ but they were factory made that way. Aut vincere aut mori

I meant to say only for that application. No others used the angled sear. So if he is replacing the trigger he needs a 90 degree cocking piece.
