Cost of rebarrel. Cost of rechamber old new barrel
I have a 1982 Rem 700 in 30-06. The factory 24" barrel was cut to 22", crowned and Mag-Na-Ported. It was also turned down quite heavly to .550" at the muzzle. I'm thinking of either rebarreling to the same 30-06 or 06AI in a Lilja barrel.
or....
simply having the current barrel set back a thread and rechambered to 06AI.
What, in your experience, would be the cost of each project for labor alone. Lilja barrel would run about $300.00....last I checked.

vapodogPrices can very a lot but the cost of converting the existing barrel to 30-06 AI should run roughly about $175
The cost of installing a new barrel to the same chambering might run $50 more and then you have to have it blued and D&T if you want iron sights installed.
Just take it to someone there and ask them to quote it for you.
I'd be very curious as to why one would spend even a dime to rechamber to the AI version when the overwhelming evidence is that they don't provide any benefits to the shooter at all?

jeffeossoGSSP,
How does it shoot? what loads are you using? but, really, what do you want out of it?
It sounds like a like, handy, near carbine level 30-06. with a 22" barrel, going to the AI won't give you any more, realisticly, velocity.
If you want a high velocity short barrel, you could be miles ahead, in time, price, and agrevation, if you sold the remmie and got a model 7 in 300 SAUM... you would have velocity, cabine length, and factory dies/ammo/brass.
If your smith has a reamer, having it rechambered would be anywhere from 75-150$ - call it $150 as you have the ports that have to be timed. and that assumes no damage to the barrel finish.
add in a lilja barrel (you said 300), and bluing .. call it a $650 package price, after it's installed, blued, inletted in the stock and bedded.
