I see very often pics of Mauser rifles (unaltered) with a Lyman 48 peep sight mounted in combination with the normal dimensioned Mauser original front sight ramp and a more ore less standard dimensioned front sight. Whereas the G&H rifles for example have considerably higher front sight ramps (what seems to be logical for me). Even the highest front side blades actually available attached to the standard ramp are not high enough to meet the point of impact even in the lowest position of the peep. Am I wrong? Any elegant solution if a Lyman should be mounted ?

You may have been seeing G&H rifles built on the 1903 Springfield action, or at least the tall front ramps intended for use with the 1903. The 1903's awkwardly-tall rear bridge means that its Lyman 48 sight is made taller than their model for the Mauser, and so requires a taller front sight. I imagine that G&H used the same ramps on most of their rifles simply for convenience and economy, and so that may be the reason. IMO normally a usual-US-height ramp front will be OK on a Mauser with a 48, for instance I think the NECG front sight is fine with a Mauser while in my (limited) experience it is usually somewhat short for a 1903. I had a 48 Foolproof on a 98K. I had to put a considerably higher front sight on it. I used a Williams "Firesight" front bead made for .22 rifle replacement. The dovetail is just a bit larger than the GI Mauser sight. You can find links & other info HERE. If a "Firesight" is not your cup of tea. You can use the sight hieght info on that thread to find the proper "iron" front sight. GOOGLE HOTLINK FIX FOR BLOCKED PHOTOBUCKET IMAGES https://chrome.google.com/webs...inkfix=1516144253810
