Ladies and Gentlemen:

Based upon your experience can a 30-30 or 32 Special Marlin lever action rifle with an original barrel, be rechambered to 38-55 and the bore re-rifled to .375"?

Does this require the factory barrel to be set back?

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

1st question... Yes
2nd question... No

I have a question for you Yale. Have you considered rechambering to the 375JDJ, 375x444?

I see this fellow has sales on an auction site frequently with rebored guns and seems to have a good reputation.

Yale
Be careful with a .38-55. It is a real .38 meaning the groove diameter runs from .377 to .382.
Yet the SAAMI chamber will only allow a bullet of .378 max to be loaded. If the bore is at the largest diameter your chamber will be too small in the neck.

Dear D Humbarger:

No, I have not looked at the JDL or 375/444, but I will now.

Dear Fury01:

Thank you, informative thread.

Dear SR4759:

I'm going to try and have the groove cut to .375", so that I can use standard .375" bullets, instead of the .377-.380" bullets.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Dear Doug:

Thanks again.

I'm on the .375 boat already, just determining where to dock it.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis
