I'm using one for a 550 Magnum on a CZ 550 Safari action with no problems. It is double cross-bolted, though.

I have a banded sling swivel so I can't comment on his forend hanger arrangement for big bores; I ommitted it.

Have one of his first stocks (no cheekpiece)on my CZ550 416Rigby and really like it. I omitted the front swivel as I have a barrel band and have fully glassed it. I am very happy with it. Fits good ,feels good,looks good to me. No downside I have found. Only difficult part is you have to inlet the barrel lug on the dropins. I also bought the unfinished and finished it myself but the finish sanding was very good on the stock as it came. He is very good to work with. As I said I am very pleased with all aspects of the stock. I have used Boyds,David Miller and Brockmans laminates and like all three equally as well.

I've been reading that laminated stocks should not be used on heavy hitters.
I bought a left-handed Ruger 77 in 300 Win. and was going to re-barrel to 458 Win.
Some posters here at AR said that wasn't a good idea. They seemed to infer the laminations would seperate and cause problems.
Will double crossbolting keep the wood together?
I really like the the stock that is on the gun now as it seems to be heavier than the stock I got with a left-handed 375 Hawkeye I just purchased.
The Hawkeye has only one crossbolt. Do you think the stock on the Hawkeye would hold up to the 458?

Assuming the laminated blank is properly glued, it will stand up just fine to heavy recoil. I have a .458 Lott on a liminated stock with well over a 1,000 rounds through it with not problems. I am also personnally familiar with two .460 Weatherby customs built with laminated stocks for Professional Hunters in Tanzania who use a gun quite hard.

I guess to put it in a nutshell, Duane Wiebe, David Miller, and Darcy Echols have all built heavy magnums on guns with laminated stocks. I dought that three of the most respected gunsmiths in America would use laminated stocks if they did not hold up.
