Anyone heard any rumblings of any of the other manufacturers chambering the 375 Ruger in the near future?

I guess everyone has heard the same as me..nothing so far. I figure by next year someone else will be chambering it. Maybe Kimber or Sako.

this seems to be a "wait and see" item as it's still very new....it's an easy add for many manufacturers so it shouldn't take long and others will be on board.

Any legal problems aside, I think you will the 375 Ruger in all the same rifles you see 338.

Does anyone know how the 375 Ruger compares with the 375 Dakota?

Both will chamber in an .06 length action, I'm just curious if maybe the Ruger will have more of a life than the Dakota?

The 375 Ruger has 3 grains more case capacity than the 375 H&H. If it catches up with the 375 Dakota, that would only be with higher pressure loads.

The Dakota is slightly bigger in diameter as it is based on a shortened 404 Jefferey. It is about .445 across the head. The Ruger is a rimless case that has the same diamter as the belt on calibres such as the 7mm Rem, 300 Win etc. The belted cases drop to about .512 in front of the belt whereas the Ruger body coninues on with the diameter of the belt, that is, the Ruger is about .532 in body diameter.

Both will chamber in an .06 length action, I'm just curious if maybe the Ruger will have more of a life than the Dakota?

If you are taling about a long commercial life I would feel "no contest", the Ruger will be around for much longer.

If you are talking about case life it would depend on brass quality. I don't know who mkaes Dakota brass. However, if brass was equal then case life would be the same. If you loaded the Dakota back to 375 Ruger or H&H then it would it would last longer as it would be operating at lower pressure than the 375 Ruger because if the larger case capacity.

The 375 Ruger is just slightly bigger in capacity than the 375 H&H whereas the 375 Dakota is about like the 375 Wby or other improved versions of the 375 H&H.

500 Grains and SuperSpeed, thanks for that. I did in fact mean commercial life. I happen to like the Dakota cartridges, and have both a 300 Dakota and a 330 Dakota, and had been considering the 375 Dakota. The feeding and performance have been admirable so far on the 300 and 330, I feel it would be so in the 375 Dakota.

Thanks again--Don

Don,

I like matchings and pairings etc so I would (if I was you position) get the 375 Dakota.

Easy enough to lay in some brass. Would also be easy to make them from the 404 case because the 404 has a very long neck so making brass from 404s would not involve having the thicker shoulder area (of the 404) beibf formed in the neck of the 350 Dakota.

Personally, if I had a 300 Dakota, 330 Dakota and then added a 375 Ruger instead of a 375 Dakota I would get serious indigestion. Big Grin
