How many times do we see people posting asking for quality LOW rings for a BRNO or CZ? Talley make a great product - unfortunately it's lowest ring is a medium - same for Warne too! There must be lot of ZG and ZKK600 owners out there who want a good cheek weld. Talley would make a low ring in a minimum order of 100(0.3" ring height) Send them an e mail to try to persuade them to manafacture some low rings - talley@direcway.com

Better yet email CZ & ask them to start drilling & taping their receivers! Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I've talked to Dave Talley about it and he says the design doesn't allow it. Chuck

Well the "design" will take lower bases! Perhaps other rifles besides the Kimber 84M and Kimber 8400 have low bases available for them made by Talley as those are the ones that I am familar with. Join the NRA

Dovetails are technically superior.

Yes I will take dovetails any day of the week over bases !!

HP Shooter, I agree. Dovetails lock up great and are less prone to mounting issues, one less set of screws!

But dovetails aren't any good if you intend on taking a sighted-in back-up scope along on an important hunt. One of Talley's claims to fame are their QD rings. ___________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...holy crap...what a ride!"

Yep dove tails are better. That is dual dove tail rings with 8-40 screws in the base! Sako tapered dove tails yes but not what CZ calls dove tails PS: I just finished drilling & tapping (8-40) a Brno 602 in 500A2 & fitting a MOULDS steel picatinny rail after the second set of talleys failed. Funny, I have quick detachable rings on my CZ 550, and they are not Talleys. They also return to zero every single time I remove and replace them.

Have you ever wondered what that square notch on the left rear dovetail of CZ and BRNO receivers is for? Let me give you a hint, it mates with a lug on the rear ring and locates and hold the scope in a longitudinal direction. You can dislike dovetails for all sorts of subjective reasons. But you cannot convince anyone with an engineering and tooling background that something that depends on screws for shear strength is better than something that has an integral (and MUCH heavier) lug.

Read my post above. something that depends on screws for shear strength The nib on the Talleys that locate in the notch your talking about are where the Talleys failed BOTH times! So what squeezes the two ring halves tight against the receiver dove tails? Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Sounds like a problem with Talley rings, not with CZ dovetails.

I had 2 sets of the old low Warne QD rings for the CZ's. I had to modify the bolt handle to get it to clear the ocular bell on the scope. Screwed on bases is not a problem, been using them for 60 years, if a problem exists its 6-48 screws..I use 8/40s on big bores.... Technically a double square bridge dovetail is stronger, but so what, few guns are double square bridge...I don't understand the problem with the "nib" on Talleys for a CZ or a Brno 21 or 22...they work!! "Cheek weld", 3 point hold, is not all that necessary in a rifle IMO...I grew up on Win. m-70 low comb rifles and Rem 721,722s then went to scopes and it never bothered me, a lot of us old guys made that transition and never knew the difference, thank goodness, who needs an extra crutch.... The upside to our mispent upbringing is we can set up our DGRs for irons and shoot them with a scope, the cheek welders cannot shoot iron sights with their high comb stocks, unless they put a very high, plumb nasty ugly set of irons on a high ramp, gag!! I do, also. But they are not dovetails which was my point. ___________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...holy crap...what a ride!"

The Warne QDs on my 550 clamp on the dovetails. I still don't see your point. Is your point that you didn't know there were QD rings that clamped directly to the CZ dovetails?

I have Warne rings on a 602ZKK in 375. The locating/recoil tab did not completely shear off but started to. I assume this was due to clamp not being tight enough. I ordered CZ rings for my 416Rigby 550 and while they are not particularly pretty they fit and function perfectly with GOOD contact in the recoil tab area. Any lower rings would require a scope with a smaller eyepiece to clear the bolt handle. The current scope is a Swarovski 1.5x4 and it barely clears. A Leupold clears with some space and could be lowered a SMALL amount. I can understand why no lower rings are manufactured for this model. Bolt handle of course could be modified and would probably result in a better looking handle but would also have a resulting cost attached. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

HP Shooter, Maybe we are referring to two different types of dovetails. I thought you were referring to the Leupold dovetail rings. If you were referring to the CZ system, then I appologize. ___________________ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...holy crap...what a ride!"

This is why Talley doesn't offer low rings for Brnos/CZs. (that's what they told me) Johan: Drilling and tapping a ZG 47 or brno...is not an option NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.
