Yours's appears to be a K-frame. That would make it a Military & Police, later changed to Model 10. Mark Pursell

That is no regular old model 10! It is probably a model 10-7 or 10-8. There were only 200 of those made with the case color frame and it was the precursor to the Heritage line buy Lew Horton. They were made right around 2000 and note the lack of the Smith and Wesson Lock hole near the thumb release. These were some of the very last guns made prior to the lock being added. Do to the success of this gun the Heritage line was introduced but the line was a failure for S&W, partially because most of the Heritage guns have the lock.

If I recall correctly the -Xs in the number just represent minor internal changes starting with 10 and no dash then 10-1 thru about 10-8 a 10-7 and 10-1 are still the same gun The most common as I recall are -2, -3 and -4 as these were produced in the 70s and 80s before the auto craze. Model 10s, 12s, 13s, 15s, 19s, 64s, 65s, and 66s produced in the same time frames will have the same -X numbers Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi?
