Hello,

I have a work extractor on a Remington 700 R5 in 300 win mag.

I managed to find the extractor on Pacific tool and Gauge.

Unfortunately they did not have the rivet needed to install the extractor.

I haven't been able to find any info on the internet on how to change it, what type of rivet I need.

Also the only gunsmith in town is so busy that he is not taking in any new work.

DOES ANYONE KNOW A GUNSMITH I CAN MAIL THE BOLT AND EXTRACTOR TO FOR INSTALATION AT A REASONABLE PRICE??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Besides a small ball peen hammer. you'll need the fixture/anvil to jold the rivet in place while while peening it.

I have a bunch of the long rivet ( 222/223)
They can be cut shorter to fit the Magnum extractor

Before you rivet the extractor in, take the extractor and polish the upper and lower surfaces. Eliminate any burrs. Make sure the extractor moves easily in its mortise. Oh, get two rivets from J Wisner.

There is a rivet staking tool for the Rem extractor on the same page in the link.

OK, I finally read the entire post. The OP wants to ship to a 'smith. Most 'smiths would need the entire rifle to make sure the extractor holds and extracts after firing. The shop I work at was a Remington service center and we can easily do that. Send the extractor and the rivets too as we long ago ran out.

Call (843) 393-6291. Ask to speak with Mike for a quote.
