Hi! I am about to have a .333jeffery rifle made on a M98 Mauser action(original). Is there anybody who knows any gunsmith supplies who makes takedown system(interupted threads) for the M98action? Thanks! Jens DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

Jens welcome to the forums. You will have to get a custom gunsmith to make you one. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Jens To my knowledge no one makes a kit per say to convert to takedown. All componets will have to be made for your individual action. All recent Mauser takedowns that I have seen except one has been full thread. This one was a two barreled set built by Stephen Heilmann. Tod Hanson of NorsMan Sporting Arms uses 98 Mausers in his takedowns. Look at http://www.vovapen.com They use 98 Mausers as a base for one of there lines of takedowns. There sight is hard to navigate, so click on everything to view it all from different angles. They have a sister company that has more of a working takedown on the Mauser platform. I think the name of the rifles was Warthog. Keep us informed of your progress, got to go for now. James

Speaking with Steve Heilmann at the Reno American Custom Gun Makers Guild Show, said he prefered not to do Interupted thread. The example two barrel T/D mauser he had there was 30/06 & .425 Westley Richards. He only did interupted thread because the customer very much insisted. Jerry Fisher,Hartmann Weiss,Granite Mountain Arms, Martini/Hagn,all had full square thread takedowns at the Reno shows. Hartmann Weiss will do an interupted thread for you, but speaking with them, they still prefer the full thread. The interupted is alot more work, and most people do not need to change a barrel that quickly. Takedown is usually just for the convenience of travel.Once at camp or in the safe at home, it can usually stay put together. But if an interupted thread is what makes you happy,go for it. Just be prepared to pay $$$ for a good job. A take down Mauser from Martini/ Hagn will cost around US$14,000 for a full thread Hartmann Weiss t/d on a new magnum action your looking around US$27,000 maybe a little less on a std action. The worst t/d I have seen is a M70 winchester factory custom job which I am led to believe the t/d work was done by Hs Precision.Threads were v-form,interupted gauled & rough!Just didnt feel the best when putting it together. There were small metal particles visible from wear. Then I had alook at Martini /Hagn threads, square, smooth, precise, tight & hard chromed. Two worlds apart. You only get what you pay for .

A friend of mine has a old take down M98 in .318 WR that was done by Frasier in Scotland in the early 1900s that has the interupted thread system. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

What is a fair price for a 2 barreld take-down? It appears to be in V/G condition, of standard calibre configuration and not of interrupted thread design. The seller doesn't know who made it and it's listed at gunbroker.com item # 33458971

Don't discount the Holland and Holland system - very simple and very accurate. My 09 Argentine custom so modified shoots from 0.5-0.75moa taking down between shots.

True. The H&H system is an accurate alternative compared to the threaded systems, who has a built in basic problem in the fact that the barrel is not permanently attached to the part that keeps the scope mount. There are several examples of threaded systems that works excellent but there are also a number of other examples... My 300 H&H, an accurate, simple an easy to build system wich is enough detachable for travelling. Martin
