In white finishes, I don't think you can beat Robar's NP3, which is an electroless nickel finish that's impregnated at the molecular level with teflon. You get rust resistance with lubricity and easy cleaning all in one.

Here's another vote for NP-3. You might consider the old standby suggested by the late, great Finn Aagaard, paste car wax.

Robar

There are plenty of methods used to protect a rifle from moisture without resorting to a significant investment. Remove the stock and apply spar varnish to all wood surfaces in the action mortise, barrel channel, under the butt plate/recoil pad and grip cap, and under the sling swivels. A good application of ordinary Johnson's Paste wax on the barrelled action works wonders. After it dries, buff it and recoat with wax again. You can build up a protective coating of wax that does a wonderful job of deterring oxidation. This is a pretty good alternative if you decide against the cost of additional metal treatments.
