Symbols: 1.) an X with a little star over it 2.) a little symbol that somewhat resembles the browning symbol, kind of looks like the & with legs. 3.) PV 4.) Arrow facing the rear of the action arrow tip is made up of 3 or 4 lines. 5.) 5 digit serial number starting with C and ending with 1. Any Ideas? The bolt has the same serial number on its bottom side.

the X with a star over it could be an Israeli star of david. The & with legs sounds like a Czech rampant lion proof. My guess is an Israeli issued VZ24. Is it stamped 7.62 on the receiver ring?

No other markings other than the serial number. This is a custom rifle now chambered in 280 AI. Any other place to look for hints? Gunsmith, without researching, said he thinks it may be Austrian.

The "PV" and Browning-like symbol sounds like Belgium proof marks, so maybe an FN. You might try a Google search on proof marks which may bring up the proof mark section of the Blue Book. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!
