Ruger #1 Takedown Conversion?

This is probably a dumb question. I have been looking around at various takedown conversions done on lever action and bolt action rifles, and during my search I came across a pic of an old gun that to me looks a lot like a variation of the Farquarson(sp?) single shot(hopefully I posted the link correctly). It struck me that it looks like a Ruger #1 could be converted to a takedown, with the ability to use different caliber barrels. I am sure that there is some good reason why it couldn't be done, but sure looks like it could work. Has anyone on here ever heard of doing this? Or have an expert opinion as to why it isn't feasible? Bland Image

Interesting thought.

here is a link to drawing of the Ruger #1.

http://www.urban-armory.com/diagrams/rugerno1.htm

I have never looked closely at one that has the forend off of it, but I think there is quite a bit metal in the forend that is "hung off"/attached to the action. that would make a takedown version difficult, if not impossible.

Maybe someone with a #1 can tell us.

The problem with the Ruger is that the hammer and ejector springs and assembly go forward into the forearm. I quess you could make a quick release barrel of some type but the scope mounts are on the barrel.

As usual just my $.02

As ramrod has stated the Farq. take town system will not work on No1. I have owned No1's, still have a 45/70, but...
Take a look at the Blaser K 95. www.blaser.de.com
I have a Stutzen in 308 and it is one of the most accurate hunting rifles I have ever shot. Check on the European forum for more info.

Thanks for the feedback. Reading the comments and doing some other research it seems apparent that it would not work , or not easily anyway, on the #1, I will check the blaser site out, I have heard good things about them. Thanks again

I believe Clyde Moore of D&D Gunsmiths (Clawson, Michigan) does something similar. He does switchbarrel set-ups on the #1 (and Mauser actions also). He built quite a few rifles for Finn Aagarrd (sp?)
