I have an old Savage 110 in .243Win. The barrel is all but shot out. I would like to rebarrel it with a .257Roberts. Is the action long enough for this? The two cartridges are pretty close in size. Will other modifications be required? I'd sure appreciate any advice you can give me. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal

The 110 is a long action (savage didn't make a short action until a few years ago), so it should work just fine. Sharpshooter supply has pre-chambered barrels that just require screwing into the receiver and headspacing with the proper gauge, then tighten the nut. The cheaper guys get by without using a gauge, just throw a piece of brass into the chamber and screw it down until it touches.

Hello Boltman, I don't know about that screwing it in until it touches. While I'm quite disgusted at the super long chambers we're currently afflicted with, I do like enough to comfortably reach out to the lands; that is, if I can touch them. Thanks, you've told me what I need to know. Good old Savage and it's long magazine will do it nicely then. Best wishes. Cal - Montreal
