I have bought three blanks from Brian @ NZ Walnut. He is a great guy to deal with. These two were both Grade 4 blanks. The first one is G4-20 on the NZ Walnut site. Good value and good comunication with Brian. Von Gruff

Photobucket Site Maintenance Images and videos may continue to serve during this short maintenance. WELL SEND ME A REMINDER, BUT I GOT ONE OF THE $250 BLANKS AND IT WAS JUST SHORT OF AMAZING AND WORTH AT LEAST THREE TIMES WHAT I PAID FOR IT. IF YOU CHECK MY POST: NZ WALNUT AND M1999 YOU WILL SEE BOTH THE BLANK AND THE FINISHED PRODUCT.

Von, I like your butt plate. Did you have it custom made? I haven't seen one like it for sale.

Trez I started with a Macfarlane solid plate and cut out my own design to smarten it up a bit. I think the usual skeleton design is a bit plain. Von Gruff.

Brian Kerr is a very easy guy to deal with ,he will go out of his way to get you the blank you want. It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack; not rationality.

.366torque Thanks, yeh that email looks familiar. Maybe I'll try them again. So how does purchasing from them work? A person pays for a blank, and then they send it from overseas?? Or do they have an outlet with blanks already in the US??

Lumber out of NZ & Oz is some of the nicest IMO. Beautiful work on those rifles. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

I think Roger Vardy used to send wood to that guy in colorado, i forget his name. bisio, thats it. jim bisio. i remember seeing that walnut at several shows like tulsa. i was not impressed with the figure but it sure was damn heavy. could have been wet though i do not remember asking about that. i used to live in new york for a short time due to work and i belonged to a gun club up that way. there were a group of something like 10 or 15 guys that went in and bought a small lot of wood for someone in new zealand. several of the blanks had defects and i recall them saying they could not get that kiwi to do the right thing and replace the defected blanks. thats always what bothers me about buying from overseas. its a gamble and a roll of the dice, you are generally screwed if there's a problem. thats my experience anyway. i have played those games. Mr. guntoter, I have 5 blanks from Roger Vardy. David Christman has carved 2 of them, James Anderson has one and I have the rest. David said not only was the wood dry, it was cured. It was very hard and checkers very well. I think that you are making a blanket statement about something that you are not sure of. I'm certainly not saying that everybody in NZ and Oz are perfect, but don't make it look like they are all bad. These are examples of a Vardy's wood. Figure is fine and the grain flow is great. When I learn to take photos I will post better ones. Butch

easy easy. i did not say it was wet. i just said it was heavy and that the wetness however possible or not might have been the reason. and it is not the sort of figure i like thats all. there was no blanket statement, just maybe a buyer beware statement about buying overseas and then having to deal with a defected chunk of lumber. I have been treated very well by Roger. Customs was a problem one time and he got it straightened out in a quick fashion. I told Roger which rifle and caliber and let him pick the wood. I also gave him a price range delivered to my door. Roger has given me more for my money than other places that I have checked. Yes, everybody's taste in wood and rifles are different. Butch

I bought one Vardy blank and sold it for the NZ I got. Vardy was amazingly dense and heavy, but the NZ had the best of all worlds.
