Casting marks? There is casting flash on those exterior surfaces visible when the rifle is complete?? This will not do!

Never fear. I yet to see casting lines on a finished receiver. What we do is repolish to repair the sometimes overzealous attempts to remove them. We think the sharp edges on the rear bridge (like early M70 receivers) happen to be the ticket. Also, both current version M70 and M1999 actions have a problem of polishing away the accurate relationships between the bridge and ring for scope ring height and ring parallism. This is not very hard to fix, but your gunsmith needs to be aware of it before bluing or otherwise finishing the barreled action. Things are right when a scope with a centered reticule requires only 10-15 clicks in any direction to zero the scope to the bore. Things are wrong when it takes a revolution or more to accomplish the same thing.

rootbeer I'm speaking mainly of the area around the ejection port. Perhaps casting marks was the wrong choice of words. It's just a little rougher than I'd like. Most people that have looked at my action didn't notice, maybe I'm picky
