I have an inquiry on an action from a guy in Canada. Does anyone have any experience post 9/11 on exporting?

To import into the USA, get a Form 6 from BATF and have it approved, then have the rifle or shotgun shipped to a FFL holder who will perform the usual transfer. The requirements of exporting countries vary. Dan can tell you what they are in Canada now. I don't know what the requirements are to export out of the USA, go to the BATF website.

Jim, The export of firearms is controlled by the Department of State, Bureau of Defense Trade Controls. Their website is http://www.pmdtc.org/ As a private citizen, I was able to successfully export a rifle last year under a provision of the law which allows a one time exemption from the requirement to be a licensed exporter. I'm glad the exemption is a one timer as I would never want to go through the hassle again. Although, I should explain that exporting to an English language country makes things much easier. I exported to Denmark. If you'd like some details, feel free to email me. Brian

Jim are you seding a gun to someone, or is a Canadian sending you a gun for work. If the latter, there is no paperwork required on the Cdn side. If the former, your gov't will require an export permit, which won't be issued without a Cdn import permit. The import permit isn't actually required by the Cdn gov't, they just issue them so that we can send them south to make the US gov't happy. Clear as mud so far? Any other questions, just ask. - Dan
