Bought a new rifle, now I have a 22 mag and a 22 lr lever gun. What I want to do is go out and play rifle man. What I need are the old levers that had the little tab you could pull up and the rifle would fire when the lever closed. I know they made these because my browning had one. Loved that gun, disapeared while I was in the military. I know that due to liability concerns this is going to be a hard item to find. Any one have any ideas? I dont want to do the set screw trick. It works but I would have to carry around a allen wrench.

A gunsmith would be a damn fool to enable a gun to fire by means other than the trigger.

It would be an instant, and life-ruining, law suit that can't be won by the 'smith under any circumstances, so why in the world would anybody do it?

Asking this kind of question almost makes me think this is some sort of a ATF set-up. Is modifying a gun like that even legal?

Years ago you could order parts mail-order to convert your AR-5 to full-auto, but I sure wouldn't be trying to find on on-line today.

Toomany,

It would be legal AND stupid. The ATF is interested in weapons which fire more than one round with one single pull of the weapons trigger.

There was a device several years ago making the circuit that would connect to the AR trigger guard. This device when pulled, would fan the trigger some 5 hits (I believe) per pull. Since the trigger was theoretically actuated 5 individual times, this was supposedly the legal answer to skirting the full auto laws.

This lever/trigger action is for Hollywood, is unreliable and unsafe.

Buford1,

California would have a field day with you over that kind of modification. You are not exactly living in the land of Oz out there. Do yourself a favor and visit Stenbridge gunworks in LA to view these types of weapons made for Hollywood and leave it to the stunt men who only fire blanks through these specially modified weapons...

Malm,

Did you mean "illegal and stupid"?

I do not see how this would fall into ATF concern, you are just using the lever to actuate the trigger, still only fires once per "actuation" of the trigger.

But, I could see how some might be hesitant to perform such a modification due to liability.

Bill,

I said, "It would be legal AND stupid." maybe it would have sounded better had I said "legal BUT stupid"... anyway, this is what I meant to say.

This is not ATF's concern. Like I said, "The ATF is interested in weapons which fire more than one round with one single pull of the weapons trigger."

California on the other hand, might want to make something as benign as this their business, but then that is how they choose to spend their time and money on the Left Coast...

I really didnt think this was a STUPID question. It was a honest question. When I was 13 my dad gave me a browning that had this device. I had 6 years of fun using,it never shot anybody, didnt even have a accidental discharge.Besides as long as weapon is pointed in a safe direction whats the problem. I checked with BROWNELLS they did a search said that item is not available. I figured as much, but had to try.As for being a ATF setup, NO just a guy wanting to go back to his childhood days and do something I really enjoyed. Thanks for the replies, HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!!
