Anyone know if a m98 or m96 bottom metal will fit a 1640 husqvarna action to replace the alloy one?

I dont have a 1640 reciever to check. Just curious for a future project

M98 is the right length to fit the action - not sure if the floor plate shape is the same though.
Good to go with a m98 if you are restocking.

If you don't mind sloppy wood to metal fit at the front ring. The 1640 is a small ring.

The stock will burn and cook some meat. Not asking about wood fit

I was curious about m98(like a FN) bottom metal fit to 1640 reciever.

The bottom metal from a m-98 will fit the action just as Loosecat points out! There is steel bottom metals made for the 1640 though! The early 1600 series had nice steel bottoms! Not the same shape as the ones in aluminium though.

I used a steel one from a 1640 on my Husqvarna m98 in 9,3x66 Sako.

If you are restocking you won't have a problem. I have a 1600 if you want some numbers.

I had a 1640 I here not long ago. I didn't think to see if 98 bottom metal would work but I did stick the whole works into a spare SR 98 stock I had and it fit with just a little relieving here and there. I needed to test fire it.

If FN bottom metal isn't a drop in fit I'd bet that it was at least doable with minimal effort. One thing I will say is that I don't think the 1640 takes the same guard screws as a 98. Threads are different.

Yes.

Duane Wiebe just finished a .30-06 on a Husqvarna 1640 action for my wife and it wears the rounded Jerry Fisher-style Blackburn M98 bottom metal. I also have the Husqvarna steel bottom metal assembly from the action and it will work on a M98 Mauser with very minor fitting, as I tried it on a military action I have here. In short, they can be interchanged when building a rifle.

As to the guard screws, I believe Duane told me that they are the same thread as Sako guard screws.

As an aside, I also know that M98 aftermarket triggers and Model 70-style bolt shroud safeties can be fitted to the Husqvarna action, as my wife's rifle has both of those features as well.

I have done this myself.
The only thing that differs the 1640 from the M98 bottom mettal, is the with of the tang in front of the magazine. On the 1640 it is as wide as the magazine. I have mashined some to the same shape as a M98 bottom mettal, and I have used M98 bottom mettal, when restocking.
Here is a pic to show the front of the bottom of a Husquarna 1640:

Sorry for the bad quality, but it will do.
On the Husquarna 640, original M98 bottom mettal fits like a glove.
