I want to replace the barrel on my son's M70 Stainless 30 06 with a Kreiger.
He shoots mainly 150-180gr bullets. What rate of twist should I order?

1:10 is the original twist used in the '06 for up to 220 and 250gr bullets.

If I were going to the effort and expense of a custom barrel from Kreiger, Shilen, Hart, Lilja, etc... and only shot 150-180gr bullets I'd go 1:12"

Why spin a bullet faster than needed?
For a "meat rifle" a faster twist than absolutely necissary only exaggerates any minute flaws in the bullets used.

In a 223Rem varmint rifle do you go with a 1:7" twist
even if the rifle will only ever be used to shoot 40-50gr varmint bullets?
