Gentlemen, I have two good 'copes, a Zeiss and a Nickel / Gerhardt, which have scratches and wear caused by scope rings / mounting and hunting. Does anyone know of a touch-up 'paint' method I can cover the marks? Thanks

Not the answer you are looking for but most factories will refinish them for you for a small charge I am unaware of any touch up paint that would work. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I've touched up matte black aluminum scope tubes to my undemanding satisfaction with a black Sharpie. "A cheerful heart is good medicine."

Richochet - What is a 'sharpie' when it is 'at home'? Thank you both. I reckon the use of white spirit, or similar, to de-grease the surface and some sort of matt metallic paint, witha soot like appearance from a car body shop etc would do the trick. Any ideas? Would something like a matte 'Japan' type lacquer paint work? The type used on young childrens' toys?

At one time Spradlin's was the refinisher that Leupold referred people to. http://www.spradlins.net/index.html NRA Life Member NRA Charter Member Golden Eagles

Ok, I have tried a little experimentation. Edding permanent marker pens in matte black produce a sort of okish finish. But the answer is Birchwood Casey "Aluminium Blacking" compound / fluid - 'blueing' for anodized aluminium. Considering the extent / depth of the marks, they really are not noticeable anymore unless you look at the scope body. Just a glance, and you would not notice them. The stuff is just wiped on using a soft cloth. Do lots of thin layers and allow to dry between applications. Slowly, the 'brightness' fades away.

I think Brownell's and Sinclair offer touch-up marking pens for scopes.
