Gunsamerica Beware!!!!

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in or not, but here goes.

I became interested in purchasing a Dakota M10 in .25-06 and located one on http://www.Gunsamerica.com. I contacted the dealer (by email and telephone) and was quoted a firm price of $5200, including rings, s/n J25-06. I decided to consider it for awhile and in the meantime, another similar M10 became available on Gunsamerica. I also contacted that dealer (by email and telephone) and was quoted a firm price of $6995, including rings, s/n J25-06.

Is it me or does something sound strange here? How is it that the same gun, with the same serial number, is offered by 2 separate dealers, in 2 separate states and each has the gun in their possession? I attempted to contact Gunsamerica Support, but have had no response.

Check it out for yourselves at http://www.Gunsamerica.com, GA-976626559 and again at GA-976561494, under the heading of Dakota Arms.

Is this the face of the gun trade today? I surely hope not and how can this be tolerated? Needless to say, I'm not buying from either.

Those 2 dealers are not that far apart geographically. Seems obvious to me that one of two things happend. Either the first one, without naming names, with the cheaper price sold or traded it to the second one between your inquires or, more likely, the higher priced dealer is whoring the first one's inventory. If you want the gun, and like the first price, I think you are cutting off your nose to spite your face not to buy it. If he can't deliver, you'll know it soon enough.

Well they are the same rifle. laid the pictures side by side and the case harden pattern is the same? Maybe he sold it hasn't removed it and the other place is marking it up. My serial number on my 25-06 is just 00&*. It is the plain Jane version. No "J" or dash.

As usual just my $.02

Seems to be some chicanery afoot here. Sure looks like the same rifle to me.
My only thought would be that the quoted serial number isn't a serial number, but a Model number.
But, I definitely won't be forgetting the two dealers. Smells very badly.
Thanks for the heads up!!!
Don

it's the old "mine is cheaper scam.

I bet that both are owned by the same person with two identities and two email addresses and want's to make one seem far more cost effective by having a comparable one at a higher price.

I'd call Steve and ask him for myself before I slandered his name all over a talk forum. I know you made an effort not to so don't take the above comment too personal. I don't know the man personally but, I've talked to him on the phone about a Mannlicher Schoenauer before. He's about 2 1/2 hours down the road from me and invited me to come look at the rifle in person. Said he'd make it worth the drive. I ended up buying one from Griffen&Howe so I never made the trip. Seems like a nice guy though. I bet there is a very simple explanation.

I have used gunsamerica and auctionarms but am still very leary of who I'm doing business with! Storys like yours only justify my relutance.

Usualy I check the history of comments of any seller or buyer. Also keep an eye on the ones that have been there a long time.

However, my experience has been nothing but positive on all my transactions. I do agree with TC1 - You should have put your questions to him first before post negatively.

Doesn't a serial number of J25-06 for a 25-06 rifle seem like too much of a coincidence? I know nothing about these rifles, but if I were going to bet, I would go pretty long on this being a Model "J", whatever that equates to, in 25-06 caliber.

Gunsamerica is notorious for keeping sold guns listed forever after they've been sold.

Could be simply that the guy with the higher price bought it from the lower priced guy and thinks he can make a $1,795 profit.

Note that the higher priced dealer's ad is "New this Week."

Try calling the lower priced guy back and see if he's sold it.

Gunsamerica is a good place to sell the unusual for a high price.
The add can be left for a long time, until the right buyer sees it.

Post 64 Win94s are sold like pork bellies, and can be sold at local gunshows fast enough at close the the highest price one will ever get.
