there's a post about having a 243wssm on an ar action. The thought just hit my head, that the short mags operate at 65,000 and the ar is designed for 223 at 50-55000. What do you guys suppose happens to the operating system in the ar at the higher pressure??

We were allowed to invent guns so that some of these projects would help chlorinate the Gene pool.

Nothing. The operating system would have had to have been changed to get the weapon to feed and function provided this conversion has actually been done...

My guess is that if this conversion has been done, it was probably done to the .308 version, or the AR10 type weapon.

However, if nothing were changed in the operating system, then the higher pressure would probably destroy the weapon in rapid fashion.

It will be a disaster as you describe it. The AR-10 platform has many problems also JMO

Olympic is the one making wssm AR's. They redesigned the receiver, bolt, and barrel extension. The bolt and lugs are much larger, nearly as big as the AR-10. Barrel threads are also bigger. Front of receiver is counterbored for the larger barrel extension. There are some feeding issues, but I think it is plenty strong. And of course being that it is from Oly, you have some quality issues as well.

This sort of reminds me of a buddy I had once that dropped a 327 Vette engine into an Austin Healy...for drag racing! On the rare occasions when something wasn’t blown or broken on it I don’t think I ever saw him win a race. The car just wasn’t built to get all that HP to the ground...but boy would it spin the tires!
