I have a perfectly good Ruger #3 that I am bored with.
Id like to rechamber it for an older cartridge, currently it is a .30-40 krag.

I was considering the old 35Winchester or the 405 winchester. It has exaggerated recoil at this point and the above chambering would make it worse I know. But Id like to do something different with it.

Any Ideas ?

Hows about you just buys a new barrel? Then you can go back to the old one if it should strike your fancy to do so on some fine day, assuming you can buy separate barrels for the #1 like you can for a T/C. Maybe some custom outfit out there makes them. The #1 is a popular gun, so it may obtain, but I don't know...

Homebrewer the Rugers are a falling block action.
Not a break action the the T/C and handirifles
Id probably have it rebarreled and keep the old one for later on.

Leave it alone. The Krag is a classic old caliber.

I always thought a number 3 in 30.40 with handloads would be a sweet little deer rig for my part of the woods.

Interested in selling it?

Another vote for "leave it alone". IMO the 30-40 is the best of the #3 chamberings. Wish I still had the one I foolishly sold years ago.

The 30-40 is also one of the rare of the rare in a #3. I would leave it alone!!

Well I took it out today and after shooting it a few more times I am going to keep it as is.

It shoots well and I dont need another caliber to load for.
